Center on Halsted partners with Black Alphabet Film Festival in screening a feature film in celebration of Black History Month.
Short Film: Congo Cabaret By Deondray Gossett | Quincy LeNear | Robert Philipson From the writing and producing team of "The DL Chronicles" comes “Congo Cabaret”, an adaptation of an episode from gay writer Claude McKay’s then-bestselling novel, Home to Harlem. Set in a small gay-owned Harlem speakeasy where a cabaret singer, seeking to reignite her man's fading interest, seduces the whole room, including his best friend. Featuring Daryl Stephens (Noah's Arc) and Nic Few (90 Days) Feature Film: Saturday Church By Damon Cardasis Saturday Church is a musical fantasy drama about a Black gay teen bullied at school by his classmates and threatened at home by his Aunt for his feminine characteristics. One night he ventures out into the city and meets a group of transgender and gay individuals and is invited to Saturday Church, a program run at a church every Saturday to feed and provide shelter for LGBT youths.
