COMMUNITY SESSION :STOP AND FRISK

EVENT DATE
Wednesday, February 8, 2023
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

LOCATION
Center on Cottage Grove

DESCRIPTION
Center will be hosting three community sessions in partnership with the ACLU on “Stop and Frisk” practices. We want to hear what your experience has been with CPD and being conversations to improve the existing policy. Sessions will kick off this Wednesday (1/25), and there is no time constraint for attendance. If you do not live near Center on Cottage Grove, our final session will take place here at Center on Halsted next Wednesday (2/1) @3pm. Food will be provided! What happens with my input? As a participant your input will inform community-based recommendations to CPD. The notes of comments and ideas from all of the community meetings will be compiled and analyzed by IPCE to identify common themes and suggestions. IPCE will then convene the three community partners to review the common themes and ideas shared in the discussions and use those to inform and generate a set of recommendations to CPD regarding stops and pat downs. Why are we doing this? In consultation with Independent Consultant (Maggie Hickey) and the ACLU of Illinois, the CPD is currently revising its policies and trainings on stops (including investigatory stops, traffic stops, and stops based on probable cause) and searches conducted during stops (including pat downs and other searches of people and vehicles), along with the form used to document these interactions (the “Stop Report”). The Independent Consultant, the ACLU, the City, and the CPD are supporting this community engagement process to gather community perspectives and ideas on how and when officers should conduct stops, protective pat downs, and searches of people in Chicago.
