All Boys Aren't Blue: In a series of personal essays, prominent journalist & LGBTQIA+ activist George M. Johnson explores his childhood, adolescence & college years in New Jersey & Virginia. What they depicted here has made this the second-most banned book last year [the author identifies as they/them, non-binary, some say enby]. From the memories of getting their teeth kicked out by bullies at age five, to flea marketing with their loving grandmother, to their first sexual relationships, this young-adult memoir weaves together the trials, tribulations & indeed triumphs faced by Black queer boys. In doing so, this covers such controversial topics as gender identity, toxic masculinity, brotherhood, family, structural marginalization, consent & Black joy.
